Anyway, if you're still reading, this is just an explanation as to why my name continues to change. Maybe some of you haven't noticed, maybe some of you have, but let me start at the beginning. When I first decided to pursue publication, I went under a pen name: Kat Rose. It was a nickname of mine, and my middle name, and I thought it was pretty. I thought it'd be the name I'd publish under.
But then, I decided to Google said name and there was already another Kat Rose out in the world. I knew that agents sometimes Googled their potential clients, and I wanted those I submitted to be able to find me. So I changed my name to Kate Bucklein. Now, Kate is yet another nickname of mine, and Bucklein happens to be my last name. I thought I'd go under Kate because...well, because I thought it made me sound older, probably.
To back up, I am nineteen, but I'm short, small, and apparently I can pass for a sixteen-year-old. Now, that may appeal to some people, but I have a younger sister who is sixteen and she's been blessed with the curves that decided to skip me over. Thus, I've been told several times that I look younger than her when I wear my hair a certain way or decide not to wear makeup because I'm just too lazy to put it on sometimes. So no, being told I look sixteen does not appeal to me.
However, when I query, my email tells people my name is Katie, because it is and that's what I made the email under. So agents started to call me Katie, despite me signing my query with Kate. Which is totally and completely fine! I like my name, I really do, and I'm glad they take enough time to look for it. But if they decide to Google me, they're not going to find anything relating to books under the name "Katie Bucklein." (Although this will change, because I'm switching things over to Katie.)
So. Now that I've explained all that, I want to introduce myself as Katie Bucklein. Hi! This blog will continue to stay the same because I queried agents with my blog URL in the query, and if they decide to click on it, I don't want them to not be taken here. It will change, however, as will my Twitter handle, etc.
And I think that's all I have to say! If you read all that, whoo! If you didn't, that's fine, because music is better than a long explanation about the evolution of my name. And here is your Monday Music selection! This week's is called One Day, and it's from the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End movie. This song speaks to me on so many levels because when I listen to it, I feel the feels about my pirate captain Alek. (Who I really can't wait for you all to meet.)
Katie (See what I did there?)
P.S. Fun fact: My name really is Katie. It's not a shortened version of Katelyn or Kathryn, because my mom's name is Kathryn. My parents didn't want us to get mixed up and thought Katie would make things easier. (They were wrong, by the way. I still get people insisting Katie is a nickname.)
